Chloé and Mathieu's van trip across the Channel... a daring gamble!

Mathieu and I set off with our 15-month-old daughter at the beginning of October on a van road-trip to the UK. As well as the challenge of living with 3 people in a very small space, with a little one in the throes of a fever, and even with 4, when Candice, Mathieu's older daughter, joined us for the All Saints' holiday, we chose a destination that was a bit risky in terms of weather.

We first headed for Scotland, then spent a few days in Wales, before crossing the South of England to catch the ferry again. Even though the rain and cold were faithful companions on most days of the trip, we were still able to enjoy and marvel at nature's magnificence, particularly on the Scottish island of Skye. A tiny corner of the world not so far from where we live, it's home to a wealth of wild and rugged beauty.

The weather may have been a bit 'inclement' at times (as they say when talking about terrible weather), but the autumn colours were magnificent, with mushrooms of all kinds in abundance, deer and hinds courting each other in spectacular moorland landscapes, and migratory birds in spades... It's an experience we can't resist!

For the rest of the trip, we've decided to head down to what we hope will be warmer, sunnier climes, to the south of Italy - well, nothing really definite, we'll see where our house on wheels takes us.

It's been an intense adventure, and there's never a dull moment, as we continue to work remotely, but it's a wonderful adventure - long live freedom !
